Lifeness Co., Ltd. will host the “Deep Tech Tour in Thailand,” primarily in Bangkok, Thailand, from Thursday, July 16, 2026, through Saturday, July 18, 2026.
During this tour, we will visit Thailand’s leading food companies, research institutions in the agriculture and food sectors, and deep-tech startups. By observing local R&D facilities and business operations firsthand, we will learn about the social challenges facing Thailand and the mechanisms for commercializing research findings, while exploring new opportunities for collaboration between Japanese and Thai companies and researchers.
The Libanes Resilience ProjectWe aim to combine technologies from various fields to create a flexible and resilient social infrastructure. On this tour, we will focus in particular on themes directly linked to regional sustainability: “food production,” “recycling of underutilized resources,” and “energy efficiency.”
Planned Visits
Thai Union Group
A global seafood company based in Thailand that supports the world's food supply
Thai Union Group is one of Thailand's leading seafood companies, handling everything from the procurement, processing, and manufacturing of seafood products to their sale in countries around the world.
Ensuring a stable supply of seafood products requires a wide range of technologies, including fisheries resource management, food processing technologies, quality assurance, cold chain logistics, and the utilization of underutilized resources. During this visit, we will learn how companies operating in the food industry on a global scale integrate research and development and innovation into their business operations.
Let’s use this as an opportunity to consider how large corporations, startups, and researchers are collaborating to create new foods and production technologies.

Kasetsart University
A research and development hub that bridges agricultural and food research with actual production
Kasetsart University is one of Thailand’s leading universities, with strengths in the fields of agriculture, life sciences, food science, biotechnology, and agroindustry.
On this tour, we visited the Food Research and Product Development Institute
「Institute of Food Research and Product Development (IFRPD)」
We will also visit the pilot plant operated by the College of Agriculture and Agricultural Sciences.
A pilot plant is a facility designed to test technologies and prototypes developed in the laboratory on a scale close to actual factory production. It determines whether food products—which could only be produced in small quantities in the laboratory—can be mass-produced with consistent quality, and whether there are any issues regarding manufacturing costs, shelf life, or safety. It conducts the verification necessary for commercialization.
We will visit sites in Thailand where industry-academia collaboration is taking place, focusing on efforts to ensure that research findings do not end with academic papers or prototypes, but instead lead to product development and market launch by startups and food manufacturers.

MUU Protein
A Thai food-tech startup that produces milk protein without using cows
MUU Protein is a Thai food biotechnology startup that uses precision fermentation technology to produce milk protein without raising cattle.
Precision fermentation utilizes the activity of microorganisms to produce target proteins. Using an approach different from that of plant-based milk, we aim to develop a new protein source with nutritional and processing characteristics similar to those of conventional dairy products.
The company is developing proteins that are free of lactose, cholesterol, hormones, and antibiotic residues. In addition, compared to conventional livestock farming, this approach has the potential to reduce the use of resources such as land and water.
We will visit facilities on campus to explore the process of translating cutting-edge research findings into food products for societal application, as well as the potential for a new food industry in Thailand.

Flylab
Using Insects to Convert Agricultural Waste into Protein and Oil
Flylab is an agritech company that uses the larvae of the American soldier fly to produce insect-derived proteins and oils.
We use organic resources—such as agricultural byproducts—that were previously discarded as food for larvae, and then produce feed ingredients from the mature larvae that can be used for farmed fish, livestock, poultry, and pet food. The residue left over after raising the larvae can also be used as plant fertilizer.
Currently, securing a stable supply of protein for animal feed has become a challenge due to global population growth and the expansion of aquaculture. At the same time, large amounts of organic waste are generated by the agricultural and food industries.
Flylab’s technology transforms discarded resources into new feed, simultaneously addressing waste management and protein production. During this visit, we will tour the facilities—from insect rearing to feed ingredient production—and learn about a business model that recycles resources within the local community.

Power Accumulator Integral (PAI)
Leverage existing cooling systems to reduce electricity consumption and peak demand
Power Accumulator Integral (PAI) is a Thai climate technology company that develops energy-efficient cooling systems for cold storage facilities, food processing plants, and industrial facilities.
The "NexBATT Hybrid System" developed by the company is a technology that combines energy storage technology with existing refrigeration and cooling equipment to reduce electricity consumption and peak demand, while improving the operational efficiency of cooling systems.
A key feature of this system is that it can be implemented while utilizing existing equipment, rather than replacing the entire system. In Thailand, where high temperatures prevail and significant amounts of cooling energy are required for food storage and logistics, this system has the potential to help reduce energy costs and greenhouse gas emissions.
During the visit, we will discuss ways to improve energy efficiency across society while making use of existing infrastructure.
Also participated in the TECH PLANTER Thailand Demo Day
On Saturday, July 18, the final day of the tour, an event will be held at Chulalongkorn University
「TECH PLANTER in Thailand 2026 Demo Day」
I will be participating.
At Demo Day, Thai researchers and deep-tech startups will present their research findings and business concepts. Through interactions with local researchers and entrepreneurs, participants will explore emerging technologies in Thailand, as well as opportunities for joint research, business partnerships, and pilot projects.
This three-day program goes beyond a simple facility tour; it offers a firsthand experience of how major corporations, universities, and startups collaborate to translate research findings into industrial applications.
