Waterworks DX Service / Tenchijin Compass Space Waterworks Bureau

summary
Space Waterworks Bureau is a service for municipal waterworks bureaus to support decision-making in the selection of survey points in the event of a leakage accident or when conducting surveys to prevent leakage. Based on the diagnosis results, the service divides the area under its jurisdiction into sections of approximately 100m square and visualizes the risk of leakage on a 5-point scale. The system can narrow down areas with high leakage potential, making it easy to find priority areas for investigation. Notes and photographs can be attached to the map for efficient investigation.
Technical Strengths
Pipeline diagnosis technology analyzes "leakage risk" by making full use of multimodal AI based on space big data, environmental big data (open data), and various information such as water pipeline information and leakage history. This technology, which also conforms to the "Basic Plan for Water Circulation," makes full use of the advantages of space big data, such as wide-area coverage, continuity, and disaster tolerance.
Case Studies (Including Demonstration Results)

- scale of implementation
- - Developed under the "Advanced Satellite Remote Sensing Data Application Model Demonstration Project for Problem Solving" by the Cabinet Office, Government of Japan (in collaboration with Toyota City)
- Introduced in fiscal 2023 by many municipalities including Tokyo Metropolitan Government Waterworks Bureau, Fukushima City Waterworks Bureau, Maebashi City Waterworks Bureau, Iwata City Waterworks Bureau, Takasaki City Waterworks Bureau, etc.
The total length of the conduits analyzed so far is approximately 80,000 kilometers, or two times the circumference of the earth, and more than 20 municipalities have introduced these conduits.

(Calculation based on pipeline extension is the basis) - Other Case Studies
- Tenchijin is using space big data to solve global-scale social issues.
Space x Infrastructure:
Space big data to predict risks and narrow down maintenance locations to optimize human resources and costs
Space x Agriculture:
Promoting a shift to sustainable agriculture for issues with direct, long-term impact, such as climate change
Space x Energy:
Accelerate decision-making, such as finding sites for energy infrastructure and streamlining the installation process
Space x Carbon Offset:
Estimate methane emissions from rice paddies, improve ESG scores, etc., and support issuance of carbon credits
How to use in peacetime
The system supports the formulation of pipeline renewal plans by evaluating the current status of water pipelines based on industry-standard asset management and risk management methods. Multiple "priority scenarios for renewal" are created by combining the "soundness" based on the results of the pipeline diagnosis and the "importance" that comprehensively considers the impact on all facilities and lifestyles, from general residences to critical water supply facilities. The system is also effective in sharing and centrally managing information among water department staff, and can be accessed from outside of the agency because the data is provided via the cloud.
