Chofu, Tokyo, February 12, 2026
e6s, the next generation of public toilets working together in the Liveranes Resilience Projectis installed in front of Chofu Station, and I actually visited it.
e6s is a freestanding public restroom system developed by e6s Inc. that continues to function even in times of disasterIt is It features a resilient design that allows it to be used as a comfortable public restroom during normal times, and in times of disaster, even under conditions where electricity, water, and communication infrastructure have been disrupted.
Access
It is prominently located on the large roundabout in front of Chofu Station, just outside the square exit of Keio Line and JR Chofu Station.
I've seen it in person.
e6s is located in front of Chofu Station by the bus rotary at the Chofu Station Square. Looking inside, I found it to be more beautiful and well-equipped than I had imagined.
Even though it was late at night (21:00) when we visited, there were many people using the men's restroom in particular, and it was impressive to see cab drivers, construction workers, and other people working in the area using it one after another.
The fact that these facilities are used on a daily basis by citizens and workers in the community means that the environment is naturally conducive to their use in the event of a disaster. This is a very important point from the viewpoint of resilience. Facilities are not "just for emergencies," but are integrated into daily life so that they can be used without hesitation in the event of an emergency.
Main features of e6s
- Self-Sustaining Energy Systems - Solar power generation and storage batteries ensure continuous operation even during power outages
- Water Circulation System - Usable even when water supply is cut off, thanks to our unique water treatment technology
- Communication Functions - Also functions as an information center in the event of a disaster
- universal design - Designed for everyone to use with confidence
Our actual visit gave us a sense of its high potential as a toilet infrastructure in urban areas in times of disaster. In the future, we will continue to study the feasibility of expanding the system to other regions of Japan and other parts of the world, including Southeast Asia.
